The Hannara training ship, donated by the Government of the Republic of Korea (RoK), has arrived at MPC Port in northern Hai Phong city, seven days after departing from Busan, Rector of the Vietnam Maritime University (VMU), Pham Xuan Duong, said on September 23.
The Hannara was the main training ship of the Korea Maritime and Ocean University for a long period of time and effectively served navigation training in the RoK.
The vessel still has good quality and technology and meets all the requirements for an international training ship, he said.
To be renamed VMU Viet-Han (VMU Vietnam-RoK), the Hannara is capable of providing world-standard training courses to maritime students, officers, and sailors, especially those involved in the internship programme of the International Maritime Organisation, which none of existing training ships in Vietnam can do.
Transfer and reception will be carried out from September 23 to 26, Duong said, adding that this marks a historic milestone for VMU as well as Vietnam’s maritime sector, as this is the first time the country has possessed a modern training ship of international standard./.
